The couple raced out of the stadium. They had no idea where Sara was and Aeryin knew she had to find Samanthra before this planet’s authorities arrested her for murdering Bravra. Resisting the urge to shake her head, she kept running.
Once out of the stadium, they saw Samanthra waiting and the Apis followed them.
“Samanthra, we need to get back to your ship, right away,” Aeryin shouted.
“What about Bravra?” Samanthra asked hovering beside the two. “And where’s Sara?”
“Don’t worry about that right now,” Aeryin replied impatient. “Just lead us to your ship. We need to get there, before anyone else does!”
The Apis took the lead and the two followed her. They ran along large city blocks and eventually the group came up to a space port.
‘I guess we didn’t travel very far,’ Aeryin thought and Lanya smirked.
Samanthra’s ship was still in the port. This was a good sign. The party ran to the docking bay, thankful no one else took notice. Aeryin looked at Samanthra’s ship in wonder.
“What a huge beehive!” Aeryin exclaimed.
“Don’t make fun of my ship,” Samanthra retorted.
The party walked up the loading bay to the ship and entered. Samanthra hovered to the cockpit.
“Wait, shouldn’t I fly your ship?” Aeryin asked.
“It’s a different type of ship from what you’re used to,” Samanthra replied and moved forward.
Once Samanthra was gone, a man appeared before Aeryin and Lanya. He was dressed in a regal robe that had the symbol of an Eagle on it. In front of the eagle was a shield and in one claw he held arrows, the other a branch. He was the President of Platerra.
“It’s nice to see you again, Aeryin Crow,” he said.
Aeryin stood there, a look of contempt clear on her face. Lanya looked back and forth from the man to Aeryin, confused.
“I should have known,” Aeryin said.
“I’m glad I don’t have to spell it out for you,” the man replied. “Anyway, I’m here to make you an offer.”
“Why should I accept anything from you?”
“Because you have nothing to lose.”
Aeryin stayed silent. Lanya was standing next to her and she didn’t want to lose her lover, ever again. She waited.
“As you have discovered, Serum 2DO is a potent drug. Not many can overcome its effects. The fact that you were able to speaks of incredible will,” the President explained. “Anyway, destroy all traces of the drug and I will pardon your record and restore you in your former military position. You will become Captain.”
Aeryin and Lanya looked at each other and nodded. Turning around to face the President, they simultaneously punched him in the face. He fell backward after crying out in pain.
“What was that all about?” He asked.
Aeryin grabbed the President by his arm and opened the hatch. She threw him off the ship and re-closed the hatch. She began heading up towards what she hoped would be the bridge. Finding Samanthra she stopped.
“I would say that my wife and I can stay on this planet but that’s no longer an option,” Aeryin said distressed. She was hoping Lanya wasn’t right and that Samanthra wasn’t using her after all.
“You’re welcome to stay with me for a while, we’ll be taking off in five minutes,” Samanthra replied.
“Why the change of heart?” Aeryin asked.
“Perhaps, it’s because you’re trustworthy,” Samanthra replied.
Afterwards, she threw her flask over to Aeryin.
“If you plan to stay on board for a while, you can have this,” Samanthra explained. “But you better make yourselves useful. I don’t like freeloaders.”
Aeryin and Lanya laughed. They embraced each other. They each took a sip from the flask.
“You’re not going to like not being Captain for very long,” Lanya joked.
Aeryin shrugged and smiled.
